“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23

Beloved,

It is remarkable to think of how Israel forgot about God during the period of the Judges. They had witnessed God’s remarkable victories in war and his continued faithfulness to give their enemies into their hands. And yet after seeing all God’s mercies, they forgot about the Lord. I have been praying that we as a church would not forget God’s mercies.

As God’s people grieved during the days of Jeremiah, he wrote in his Lamentations, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” What a powerful reminder of the kindness of our great God. Every breath we breathe, every ray of sunshine, every touch of a child, every smile of a neighbor reflects a rich treasure of God’s mercy. God’s mercy always communicates hope. We always have hope for the days ahead. May our lives be filled with the daily hope that comes with the mercies of a new day.

As God continues to move in the life of our congregation, I pray that we would experience God’s mercy in a new way this fall. As our children get back in the rhythm of school, as college students return for class, as the summer of rest and relaxation winds down, I pray we will look to God’s mercy as we labor in the fall. We have a tremendous opportunity serve the Lord as we remain steadfast in the faith once and for all delivered to the saints.

Let us give ourselves to the Lord and to each other this fall. Let us make our Sunday gatherings (morning and evening) a priority. Let us pray fervently for and encouraging one another. Let us truly take evangelism and discipleship serious.

Each day the Lord shows us his mercy. Each season we are reminded to re-engage our lives around the gospel of the Lord Christ. God will be faithful to save and strengthen his people. God will be faithful this fall; the question is, “Will we?” Beloved, let us make the most of our time for the days are evil. Life is but a vapor, so let us spend that vapor in service to the Lord. Let us rejoice every morning in his new mercy by living in the power of the Holy Spirit so the world would get a glimpse of his goodness.
