Did you get all of it?

“For our sake He made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21

Beloved,

“Did you get all of it?” This is the question many cancer patients ask their doctors following surgery. A successful surgery is when all the cancer is removed. Cancer is like sin; we do not want only part of it removed, but all of it. The promise of the gospel is that Jesus Christ removes all of our sin. As Horatio Spafford so eloquently writes in It is Well,

“My sin–O the bliss of this glorious thought!-my sin, not in part but the whole, is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more, praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!”

“Did you get all of it?” The answer is unequivocally, YES!! Jesus removed all our sin from us by becoming sin for us. Our Redeemer never knew sin but was made to be sin so that we might become the righteousness of God. We know that our sin has been fully removed from us because we are now righteous in Christ. We have the righteousness of God and sin cannot co-exist with His righteousness. We are fully righteous as our sin has been fully removed.

Zephaniah 3:15, “The Lord has taken away the judgments against you.”
The Lord has removed the judgments against us and placed them fully onto Christ on the cross. Therefore, for those who are in Christ, God no longer sees any of our sin, but only the righteousness of Jesus Christ. We are clothed fully in the righteous robes of Christ. This is our present reality even though we will not fully realize the blessedness of this promise until we transition to glory.

And as we wait for glory, we may be tempted to doubt God’s great love for us. We may be tempted to doubt the precious promise of the gospel. We may be tempted to ask, “God, did you get all of my sin?” Rest assured, my dear brothers and sisters in Christ, God has removed all your sins and will remember them no more. Praise the Lord, for it is well with your soul!!
