Hold Fast to Hope

Date: December 3, 2018

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. (Hebrews 10:23)

Beloved,

Hope is a precious gift of God. Hope in a secular sense is wishful thinking or positive thoughts about what might come to pass in the future. Hope in a spiritual sense is the rock-solid reality of a God who is faithful to bring about his promises. Christmas is a season of hope because it shows the hope filled reality of a God who promised is faithful.

God promised that he would send the Messiah to seek and to the save lost. And he did. God promised that he would send the Messiah to bear the sin of the world. And he did. God promised that he would send the Messiah to conquer death and the grave. And he did.

God promises that he will never leave us nor forsake us. And he will. God promises to forgive us when we confess our sins to him. And he will. God promises to draw near to those who will draw near to him. And he will. God promises to sustain us and grow us his likeness during trials. And he will. God promises to deliver us in death to his eternal presence and joy. And he will.

Beloved, Christmas is proof that God keeps his promise. Christmas is a season of hope. Christmas is a season of rejoicing that he who promised is faithful. Our joy this Christmas season and every season of life is to hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering. We may have entered this Christmas season limping along in our hope but let us renew our confidence in our promise-fulfilling God who is always faithful.

Where are you lacking hope? Where are you wavering? Beloved, wait for the Lord. Hold fast to our hope for he who promised is faithful. Let Christmas renew your hope in the God of hope. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. (Romans 15:13)
